Linfield, and the wine industry, lost a forceful advocate when Kenneth L. Evenstad, co-founder of Domaine Serene Vineyards and Winery, died Oct. 21, 2020.
The Grace and Ken Evenstad Center for Wine Education at Linfield University opened in 2018, following a $6 million gift from the Evenstads. The center offers a unique interdisciplinary wine studies major and minor for undergraduate students and a number of wine education programs for adult learners.
The Evenstads’ other generous contributions to Linfield have created a scholarship for underrepresented populations in the wine industry and improved wine education facilities in the university’s new science complex.
“It is clear from his philanthropy that Ken wanted to leave his mark on the world, to help others and to leave the world better for his having been in it,” Linfield President Miles K. Davis said. “That is exactly what he has done.”
