After learning about wine at Linfield and throughout Europe, Emma Anderson ’20 is back in the Willamette Valley, starting a new role at Nicolas-Jay Estate in Newberg. Anderson was the first person to enroll in the university’s unique 3+2 wine program, where students graduate with their bachelor’s degree in wine studies from Linfield and a master’s degree in vine, wine and terroir management from Ecole Superieure D’Agriculture in France, in only five years.
As part of the master’s program, Anderson had the opportunity to study wine in Spain, France, Italy and Portugal. Her time abroad was cut short due to the pandemic, and she completed her thesis back in the United States.
“The program allows you to immerse yourself in the Old-World wine regions,” she said. “You really have to know the background in order to create something new.”
