Graduate student Matt Metcalf ’22 and Blake Rybar ’24 finished the 2022 season among the best in Division III at their respective positions. The pair earned All-America status, continuing Linfield’s streak of having at least one student-athlete named an All-American for the last 15 consecutive seasons.
Metcalf, a center from Sheldon High School in Eugene, earned unanimous support from all three All-America organizations. He was selected as a First Team All-American by both the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the Associated Press (AP) and Second Team All-American by D3football.com.
Joining Metcalf on the D3football.com All-America Team, Rybar was tabbed as a Third Team honoree. The Monroe, Washington, native was the first Linfield linebacker to earn All-American status since Jason Farlow ’18 received the honor in 2017.
With Metcalf and Rybar joining a long list of all-time greats, Linfield football now has 155 All-Americans in the program’s history. The Wildcats have had an All-American in every season dating back to 2007.
