Tom Hellie’s tenure at Linfield College

  • Created the Business Advisory Council
  • Softball wins NCAA Division III championship

2008

  • Hellie signed The American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment
  • Old Oak fell; Hellie requested wood be salvaged for future Linfield projects
  • Linfield celebrates Sesquicentennial

2009

  • Launched strategic planning process

2010

  • Created the Linfield Center for the Northwest
  • Luther College awarded Hellie alumni award for his achievements and service

2011

  • Established the Oregon Wine History Archive
  • Completed a renovation of Northup Hall to create T.J. Day Hall
  • Endowed new faculty position in Sociology
  • Softball wins NCAA Division III championship

2012

  • Endowed new faculty positions in Creative Writing and Political Science
  • T.J. Day Hall receives LEED Gold certification

2013

  • Dave Hansen Chair in Economics established
  • Finished a major renovation of Dillin Hall
  • Created the President’s Diversity Advisory Committee
  • Baseball wins NCAA Division III championship

2014

  • Completed renovation of Melrose, Riley, Talyor and Walker, plus numerous residence halls

2015

  • Completed a renovation of the athletic fields that began in 2008

2016

  • Developed Wine Studies program
  • Multicultural centers open on the McMinnville and Portland campuses

2017

  • For the second year, Linfield tied for the No. 1 ranking among Pacific Northwest
    liberal arts colleges for “Best Ethnic Diversity” in U.S. News and World Report
  • Launched Comprehensive Enrollment Process to identify new college programs
  • Established endowed chair in Shakespeare Studies

2018

  • Created Evenstad Center for Wine Education and endowed chair in Wine Studies
  • More than doubled the size of the endowment to $120 million
