Even periodic downpours May 6 couldn’t dampen enthusiasm for about 120 people who visited the first Camas Festival on the McMinnville campus. Linfield, the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and the Greater Yamhill Watershed Council collaborated to celebrate the flowering camas lily that grows in the wetlands around Cozine Creek. Camas bulbs were once a staple of Indigenous people’s diets in the region. Tools used during harvest were on display at the festival, guided tours through Cozine Creek led guests through camas beds and camas seeds were given to attendees. Plans are already being drafted to host the Camas Festival again in May 2023.
