The footprint of Linfield’s McMinnville campus changed this summer, as Mac Hall was removed to make room for the university’s new science complex.
Demolition of Mac Hall, a part of campus since 1937, started June 21. Crews from Walsh Construction saved bricks from the building for future re-use by the university.
Alumni, friends and supporters marked the start of construction on the new W.M. Keck Science Center on July 9, with a groundbreaking celebration. The $37 million project, part of Linfield’s Spark Wonder campaign, marks the most significant science-building enhancement since the opening of Murdock Hall in 1982. Major support for the project comes from the W.M. Keck Foundation, the Evenstad family and other donors invested in the importance of science education.
In total, the new building will add 35,000 square feet of collaborative learning spaces, research facilities and a new wine lab. Another 29,000 square feet in Graf and Murdock Halls will be renovated.
Completion of the project is scheduled for December 2022, with classes starting in the new spaces during January Term 2023.
